Cryosuction‐induced fracturing in multiphase porous materials: Numerical modeling and experimental validation

چکیده

Whether naturally- or artificially-induced due to human activities, decreasing increasing the suction in multiphase-fluid-saturated porous materials can lead enormous changes their thermo-hydromechanical properties. In this, both mathematical description and numerical modeling of coupled problem present a challenging task. The following contribution considers instance related micro-cryosuction-induced fractures, which be observed saturated unsaturated under freezing conditions. This research focuses on continuum media mechanics extended by diffusive phase-field fracture method. For cryosuction-induced fractures media, water is treated as phase-change process. modeled using approach, thermal energy derives phase change and, thus, leads occurrence micro-cryosuction formation ice phase.

Numerical Modeling of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

The simultaneous flow of immiscible fluids in porous media occurs in a wide variety of applications. The equations governing these flows are inherently nonlinear, and the geometries and material properties characterizing many problems in petroleum and groundwater engineering can be quite irregular. As a result, numerical simulation often offers the only viable approach to the mathematical model...

Modellization of Hydraulic Fracturing of Porous Materials

We review microstructural fracture growth models suitable for the study of hydraulic fracture processes in disordered porous materials and present some basic results. It is shown that microstructural models exhibit certain similarities to corresponding theories of continua. These similarities are most easily demonstrated for simple crack geometries, i.e., straight cracks (finite size scalings)....

Permeability Measurement and Numerical Modeling for Refractory Porous Materials

The transport properties of the ceramic based refractory coating to allow proper permeation of degradation products during the pyrolysis of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam in Lost Foam Casting (LFC) have an important influence on the success of the casting process. This paper proposes a new apparatus to evaluate the permeability of the refractory coatings in a relatively large differential pres...

A Generalized Numerical Approach for Modeling Multiphase Flow and Transport in Fractured Porous Media

A physically based numerical approach is presented for modeling multiphase flow and transport processes in fractured rock. In particular, a general framework model is discussed for dealing with fracture-matrix interactions, which is applicable to both continuum and discrete fracture conceptualization. The numerical modeling approach is based on a general multiple-continuum concept, suitable for...

On the selection of primary variables in numerical formulation for modeling multiphase flow in porous media.

Selecting the proper primary variables is a critical step in efficiently modeling the highly nonlinear problem of multiphase subsurface flow in a heterogeneous porous-fractured media. Current simulation and ground modeling techniques consist of (1) spatial discretization of mass and/or heat conservation equations using finite difference or finite element methods; (2) fully implicit time discret...
